Who is this workshop for?
Dancers aged 12+ (from absolute beginners to advanced), parents who want a clearer understanding of pointe work, and teachers looking to progress dancers safely and confidently.
How long is the workshop?
This is a 1.5-hour, in-person workshop held at Capital Dance Studios.
What will we learn?
We’ll explore:
• The anatomy of a pointe shoe
• How to know when a dancer is ready
• The full pointe assessment process
• What a proper fitting should look like
• Injury + pain prevention strategies
• How to care for shoes and feet
• Basics of padding, sewing, and breaking in shoes
• Why “not yet” is sometimes necessary—and how to navigate it
Is this suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. Complete beginners and more experienced dancers are welcome. This workshop is for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of readiness, the fitting process, and how to keep pointe work safe and sustainable.
Will dancers be trying on pointe shoes?
No. This is not a pointe fitting, assessment, or a pass to going en pointe. It is purely educational. Dancers must still consult their teacher, physio, and professional pointe shoe fitter.
What should we bring?
A notebook and pen, some water, your current pointe shoes if you’d like.
How much does it cost?
A single ticket is $10.
Add-on tickets (for parents, friends, or additional dancers) are $5 each.
Do parents need their own ticket?
Yes, each attendee requires their own ticket.
